Our purpose

To lead and inspire good sustainable procurement practice
This is achieved through a series of promotion and awareness events, often working with member organisations and other groups with an interest in this issue.

To extend the boundaries of best practice
This will be achieved by working with the Government on benchmarking and through leadership in sustainable procurement. The group also plans to use its influence with members and their supply chains to explore ways to introduce innovative technology to their supply chains, to educate Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) businesses. We aim to use our influence with members and their supply chains to have a net beneficial impact on society.

To act as the primary source of advice and guidance to Government policy makers on sustainable supply chain solutions
The company will help the Government and other interested parties to define and shape best practice in sustainable procurement. It will support the implementation of the Sustainable Procurement Task Force. The group also has an input to the Sustainable Consumption and Production Task Force and the DTI Environmental Innovations Advisory Group (EIAG).

Our company differs from a general commercial company because…
The company will exist to lead and inspire sustainable procurement practice. It will use the expertise of its directors and wider membership to encourage and educate public and private sector organisations to buy and sell more sustainably.

If the company makes any surplus it will be used for…
Investment in further research into the subject or provision of free services to organisations that can benefit the community through more sustainable procurement practice.
