Correction: Sustainable procurement - do you go all the way?

There was an incorrect statement in the article Sustainable procurement - do you go all the way which appeared on the Action Sustainability website on 9th February 2009.

"It takes about four tonnes of CO2 to make a tonne of concrete and two tonnes to make a tonne of steel."

These numbers are incorrect and misleading and the sentence has now been removed from the article.

The article was primarily an introduction to sustainable procurement and was not written with the intention of providing reference figures for readers to use as the basis of comparisons. Therefore in the absence of single agreed source of such values, we have withdrawn the sentence as opposed to replacing it with alternative figures.

However, correspondence received from the concrete sector indicates that the value for concrete is overstated by a factor of 40.

Action Sustainability apologise for this mistake.
