Martin Sykes was Chief Executive of the Welsh Assembly Government's Value Wales unit from 2006 to 2010. He was previously Executive Director, Smarter Procurement at the Office of Government Commerce where he led the work on procurement policy, sustainable procurement, SMEs, capacity and competition in key markets, e-procurement, construction best practice and strategic supplier relations. Martin had previous public sector experience as Director of Supply Strategy and Estates at the Department of Social Security and as Commercial Director at Transport & Local Government. Martin graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Liverpool University; he holds Fellowships in the Institution of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Purchasing and Supply. His private sector career included Babcock & Wilcox, ICI, Esso, Glaxo (where he led procurement of its Research HQ and BAA, where he developed supply strategy for T5).
Mark Turner is a sustainability specialist with 15 years direct experience of helping large and small businesses and a comprehensive range of public and voluntary sector organisations to put sustainable development theory into action. He recently launched into consultancy following three years as Head of Sustainability within the construction division of Morgan Sindall plc, where he developed a practical and deliverable sustainability strategy for this £800M turnover business. Previously he spent twelve years with sustainable development charity Groundwork, becoming Managing Director of their Merseyside based trading subsidiary and creating the highly regarded MERBEN (Merseyside Business Environment Network) project within the Region's EU Objective One programme.
Fiona Humphries has worked in sustainability and business support for over 10 years, managing the initiatives that have helped businesses to improve their overall performance, increasing their competitive advantage as well as reducing their adverse environmental and social impacts. Previously, she worked at the London Development Agency for 5 years, where she managed the region's Business Resource Efficiency and Waste Programme (funded by Defra), advised on sustainability to ensure it was embedded into the LDA's regeneration and business support activities and most recently, managed the region's Solutions for Business programme. Before this, she managed the roll-out of the LDA-funded Putting the Customer First initiative at Business Link for London and the SIGMA project at the British Standards Institution.
