How to Create Competitive Advantage through Sustainable Procurement

Procurers are increasingly required to juggle the competing agendas of CO2, local suppliers, waste minimisation, equality and overseas labour standards with performance management, cost and quality.

On Monday 7 December, Shaun McCarthy (Chair of the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012) will be hosting a business breakfast at the City Marketing Suite at Guildhall, where he will share his experiences of balancing these issues. He will also explain how the world's first guidance standard for sustainable procurement - BS 8903 - provides a practical framework to enable procurers to address sustainability and create competitive advantage.

By attending the Business Breakfast, delegates will understand:

  • The basics of BS 8903: Principles and Framework for Procuring Sustainably and how it can be used by City firms
  • How to balance the agendas of CO2, local suppliers, waste minimisation, equality and overseas labour standards with performance management, cost and quality
  • How large, City firms can become more competitive through using sustainable procurement
  • Free programmes that support sustainability initiatives of City firms, including the City Corporation-funded "Ready to Supply the City" local supply chain programme
  • How sustainability principles are driving decision-making on the 2012 Olympic Park and within large corporations

Who should attend?
People responsible for purchasing, procurement or supply chain management within large, City firms.
