A wide range of City firms are amongst those recognised for their sustainability efforts at this year's Footprint Awards. Shortlists for the various awards were released recently, and included City firms such as Sodexo, Partners in Purchasing, Brakes, CH&Co, BaxterStorey and Pret a Manger.
Two City Fringe food destinations have also received nominations, with both Wahaca's Thomasina Myers and Café Namaste's Cyrus Todiwala OBE DL recognised for their contributions with each receiving nominations for the 'Special Achievement' award.
The award categories are wide-ranging, including awards for sourcing, equipment, communication and practice. For example, Brakes Group received nominations for sustainable sourcing, environmentally efficient logistics and their corporate social and environmental responsibility.
Local procurement also features, with an award handed out in May for 'British Supply'. Many of the nominated firms participated in the International Food Exhibition earlier this year in East London, where they took part in 'Meet the Buyer' and 'Dragons Den' type activities with small and medium sized and City Fringe food producers.
The fact that so many City food firms feature in the awards is indicative of the priority that the City of London has given to sustainability over recent years, and demonstrates its success in doing so.
