In the"greening government" commitments published in February 2011, the UK government has committed to a simple framework of environmental outcomes to deliver measurable waste, water and energy improvements and for those principles to be cascaded through the supply chain. There are also social and economic objectives related to greater contribution by suppliers to do business with small to medium enterprises, create apprenticeship opportunities, etc.
If you're a signatory to the MOD sustainable procurement charter you will doubtless be working on these issues and recognise the demand for ever increasing sustainability reporting and performance in tough economic conditions.
We can help. Action Sustainability is a small social enterprise with expert knowledge of sustainability in supply chains. We have worked with the MOD for four years and trained hundreds of their procurement professionals in sustainable supply chain management. 90% of delegates rated our work as very good or excellent. We have also worked with several MOD suppliers to help them to translate the MOD objectives and their own corporate responsibility goals into their supply chains.
To see how you shape up now, you may want to try our free diagnostic tool http://www.actionsustainability.com/evaluation/sustainable-supply-chain-diagnostic/ based on the British Standard for sustainable procurement, BS 8903. We were lead technical authors of this standard and understand it better than anybody.
We would recommend an initial workshop to help you to better understand your drivers, objectives and policies in order for you to develop an action plan to address this important issue, enabling you to maintain or improve your competitive advantage with an important customer.
