Green Mobile - Britian's Greenest Telephone Company

Green Mobile (& Landline) Ltd was formed in 2006 to help raise environmental awareness and funds for green charities. It's second mission was to offer business landline and mobile line rental and call rates cheaper than mainstream competitors.  They have succeeded with both goals.

Having recently won two green business awards (www.greenmobile.co.uk), they are also at the forefront of the latest technological developments for mobiles, push to talk (PTT). Green Mobile are keen to show businesses how easy it is to save money on telecoms bills and go green at the same time. They also want organisations to know how PTT can help productivity, the environment and cost saving.

Green Mobile was the brainchild of Adrian Potter, the MD of Resource Utilities Ltd, an ethical telephone company that has been providing fund raising telecoms schemes for over 10 years.

Originally formed in association with the Woodland Trust and Friends of the Earth (and later with the Environmental Investigation Agency), it's goals were to help raise funds and awareness about the number of mobile phones that were being thrown away without being properly recycled.

How green are they? Dominic Murphy, the Guardian, said 'Green Mobile is a company that donates 6% of its turnover to charity, when many 'ethical' firms can only stretch to a measly 1% of profits'.  Green Mobile uses these donations to either plant trees or for carbon offset,  all at no cost to the business.

Green Mobile's biggest challenge has been getting businesses to see that they can go green and save money. This is because many people and businesses are of the opinion that going green means that a product/utility will probably cost more.

Fortunately, Green Mobile's PR and presence at green shows has helped to get the message that across that they are 'green and great value' into the wider business world. Recently, Green Mobile forged a relationship with southlondonbiz.com (part of the Merton Chamber of Commerce) who are promoting Green Mobile's services to local businesses via their consultants.

The benefits of swapping over to Green Mobile are that businesses can cut their telecoms bills and get carbon offsetting for free!

Green Mobile is one of the first companies in the UK to provide push to talk (PTT) for business mobiles. Widely popular in the USA, PTT lets you talk to one or many instantly at the touch of a button. It's like turning your mobiles into global range walkie-talkies.

PTT is a fantastic way to improve productivity, brainstorm and help lone workers. It works across networks and so can be added on to most business packages. There's no need to swap supplier or change network.

As PTT works with most Nokia handsets there's no need to purchase new equipment which is good for the environment. Also, if you have data packages on your current mobile, then all calls could be free.  And as with all Green Mobile business services, customers will have the option of planting trees or carbon offsetting.

Green Mobile is about to sign the World Land Trust (WLT) up as a latest charity partner. The World Land Trust (WLT) will be able to provide usiness clients with carbon offset certification and regular updates about how their donations have helped WLT projects.

For the future, Green Mobile hopes to be involved with green innovations within mobile handset developments such as the possibility of using lasagne sheets (really!) as circuit boards or mobile fascias that biodegrade and release a sunflower seed.
