Sourcing Local Sustainable Food

Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP (FFW) is a European law firm with offices in the City of London, Brussels, Hamburg, Manchester and Paris, providing commercial solutions across a range of industries and sectors. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a key element of their development strategy and to FFW, CSR means being aware that the way they manage their business has an impact across many other communities, locally and globally. Therefore, they seek to maximise the positive and minimise the negative impact of everything the organisation does.

Through their work on reducing environmental impacts, FFW has considered where they are sourcing food for client and partner entertainment and has recognised the sustainability benefits of procuring produce that is locally sourced and in season. By working with Vacherin - a sustainable contract caterer based in EC1 who follows Sustain's Seven Principles of Sustainable Food when sourcing to clients - FFW has not only reduced its food miles, but has also lowered the firm's procurement costs, as well as supporting local food producers.

Denise Sexton of FFW says "the food is always fresh and as well as providing the very best deal for the firm, it's also great quality produce. And even though we've taken an uncomplicated approach to the local sourcing of seasonal food, both our partners and clients have commented the difference."

In addition, FFW has installed its own water purification system onsite, which has helped to reduce the firm's carbon footprint through stopping the transportation of over 2,000 bottles of water per year. The firm's sensible policy is paying dividends and has ensured that FFW has achieved value for money, as well as significant improvements in their environmental performance.
