Alex Giles is an experienced sustainability consultant, specialising in measurement and performance management. She has had key roles in a range of consultancy projects including for infrastructure, construction, innovation and healthcare clients. Alex has been seconded to support two major rail projects and within an infrastructure client’s central sustainability team. In parallel to these projects, for the past 3 years she has also been implementing our online Sustainability Tool to help construction firms and developers measure and manage their onsite sustainability impacts through their supply chain. This encompasses sustainable procurement, environmental management, social value and resource efficiency. Alex facilitates Special Interest Groups for the Supply Chain Sustainability School, with outputs including the BIM maturity matrix and recommendations for performance measures. She also delivers training for the School around sustainability measurement and management, and has spoken at conferences on the subject.
Following a BSc in Geography learning about sustainability issues and global climate change, Alex went on to obtain a MA in Leadership for Sustainable Development at Forum for the Future. During her masters, Alex completed placements at Unilever, Bank of America Meryll Lynch, Pure Leapfrog and Birmingham City Council. Prior to joining AS Alex led work on sustainable procurement at the University of Greenwich, which included reviewing and advising on progress, making recommendations for policy and strategy developments and implementation. Her other roles included maintaining ISO14001 accreditation and managing and assisting other sustainability projects.
When she’s not talking sustainability metrics and indicators, Alex enjoys cycle touring around Europe, camping and travelling. She has also tried her hand at growing her own food, completing a sprint-triathlon and learning Spanish (slow but steady progress).
