» GTR Aligns its Sustainable Procurement Performance with Comprehensive ISO 20400 Implementation Plan
Discover how Action Sustainability is helping GTR align with ISO 20400, and further strengthen their compliance, sourcing, category and contract management efforts in its first ISO 20400 evaluation.
To align themselves with the ISO 20400 standard for Sustainable Procurement, GTR needed to identify where the gaps lay in the procurement, sourcing and contract management process to develop and make those areas more robust to enable a sustainable supply chain.
Action Sustainability’s assessment and subsequent report’s findings and recommendations aimed to help GTR take their procurement and contract management to even higher levels of maturity for embedding their identified risks and opportunities.
Document Review & Evaluation: We conducted a desktop review of GTR’s procurement documents and performed 1:1 deep dive stakeholder interviews with key stakeholders. Findings were compiled into a report with recommendations for improvement.
Evaluation of Existing Documentation: The first phase involved reviewing GTR’s policies, strategies, job descriptions, and tender assessments to assess alignment with ISO 20400 standards.
Stakeholder Engagement: We then conducted 1:1 key stakeholder interviews which brought together key personnel from across GTR, covering different levels and roles, to explore how procurement decisions influence sustainability.
ISO 20400 Alignment & Sustainability Objectives: The evaluation, based on the ISO 20400 framework (Fundamentals, Policy & Strategy, Enablers, and Process), provided insights into how well GTR integrates sustainability objectives into procurement practices.
The evaluation established that GTR’s category management has enabled the business to translate its needs into the sourcing teams and start that engagement with key departments. GTR have a document titled ‘Delivering GTR’s Strategy’ that sets out the process, RACI matrix and road map for full embedding of sustainable procurement.
GTR are well on their way to implementing these actions and GTR’s approach to sustainable procurement was assessed as ‘established’.
The evaluation results gave GTR an action plan of activities to do, the timescales, investment and complexity in carrying them out to fully reach their sustainability goals.
The recommendations will bring about further upskilling of teams and staff competence in the realm of sustainability, alignment of the procurement process with organisational goals, embedding of KPIs and clauses for sustainability requirements, better supply chain relationships through supplier relationship and contract management.
