» SES Strengthens Sustainable Supply Chain with Comprehensive ISO 20400 Implementation Plan
Discover how Action Sustainability is helping SES align with ISO 20400 and implement a multi-stakeholder delivery plan to drive maturity following its first ISO 20400 gap analysis.
To align themselves with the ISO 20400 standard for Sustainable Procurement, SES Engineering Services needed to identify where the gaps lay in the procurement and contract management process to develop and make those areas more robust to enable a sustainable supply chain.
Action Sustainability’s assessment and subsequent report’s findings and recommendations aimed to help SES take their procurement to even higher levels of maturity for embedding their identified risks and opportunities.
Document Review & Gap Analysis: We conducted a desktop review of SES’ procurement documents and performed an ISO 20400 gap analysis workshop with key stakeholders. Findings were compiled into a report with recommendations for improvement.
Evaluation of Existing Documentation: The first phase involved reviewing SES’ policies, strategies, job descriptions, and tender assessments to assess alignment with ISO 20400 standards.
Stakeholder Engagement Workshop: We ran a collaborative workshop which brought together key personnel from across SES, covering different levels and roles, to explore how procurement decisions influence sustainability.
ISO 20400 Alignment & Sustainability Objectives: The workshop, based on the ISO 20400 framework (Fundamentals, Policy & Strategy, Enablers, and Process), provided insights into how well SES integrates sustainability objectives into procurement practices.
“Action Sustainability’s expertise and collaborative approach were instrumental in guiding SES through our ISO 20400 alignment journey. Their thorough audit, insightful workshops, and clear recommendations have empowered us to embed sustainability deeper into our procurement processes and supply chain. We now have a robust action plan and renewed confidence in our ability to deliver on our sustainability commitments.”
The analysis established that SES have translated their Sustainable Procurement policy into an implementation plan. This plan outlines the roadmap, governance structure, and supplier and service provider requirements for sustainability and sustainable procurement to be fully embedded.
SES are well on their way to implementing these actions and SES’ approach to sustainable procurement was assessed as ‘mature’.
The evaluation results gave SES an action plan of activities to do, the timescales and complexity in carrying them out to fully reach their sustainability goals.
The recommendations will bring about further upskilling of site teams and staff competence in the realm of sustainability, alignment of the procurement process with organisational goals, embedding of KPIs and clauses for sustainability requirements, better supply chain relationships through supplier relationship and contract management.
The ISO 20400 Standard is an ideal platform to use to assess and then improve your procurement, supply chain management and sustainability outcomes.
