As organisations face growing pressure to reduce emissions and prove credible climate progress, science-based targets have become the benchmark for meaningful action. Understanding how to set, verify, and deliver against these targets is vital to achieving genuine decarbonisation. This session will demystify the science-based targets process — from data collection and verification with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to practical steps for meeting and maintaining your goals. Featuring a case study from CrossCountry Trains, we’ll explore how verified targets translate into real carbon reduction initiatives. We’ll also discuss how sustainable procurement, aligned with ISO 20400, can support long-term climate strategies and drive wider sustainability outcomes across your supply chain. Why should I attend? By the end of this session, you will: What are science-based targets, and how to apply them What initiatives should you take to meet your climate goals How sustainable procurement and ISO 20400 can support your sustainability ambitions How key sustainability impacts, such as modern slavery, biodiversity, and social value, can be addressed through procurement Target audience: This session is designed for sustainability professionals and decision-makers working across sectors such as the built environment, infrastructure, manufacturing, finance, investment, and local government. It will be particularly relevant for Sustainability Managers, Heads of Sustainability, and Compliance Managers responsible for climate reporting and strategy.
