» C&C demonstrates procurement leadership through ISO 20400 adoption
Discover how C&C is strengthening procurement, resilience, sustainability and supplier value through Action Sustainability’s ISO 20400 led approach.
C&C sought support to understand and align sustainable procurement performance across its operations division (direct, indirect and logistics).
C&C needed to identify gaps across procurement, sourcing and contract management, and strengthen these areas to support a more sustainable supply chain.
Action Sustainability’s support will help C&C drive collaboration with their supply chain, via the procurement process to embed the criteria for the major identified risk and opportunity areas in tenders going forward and even legacy contracts.
Document Review & Evaluation: We conducted a desktop review of C&C’s procurement and ESG documents and performed 1:1 deep dive stakeholder interviews with key stakeholders. Findings were compiled into a report with recommendations for improvement.
Evaluation of Existing Documentation: The first phase involved reviewing C&C’s ESG policies, strategies, job descriptions, and tender evaluations and existing contract relationships to assess alignment with ISO 20400 standards.
Stakeholder Engagement : We then conducted 1:1 key stakeholder interviews which brought together key personnel from across C&C, covering different levels and roles, within both owned and distributed sides of the business, to explore how procurement decisions influence sustainability.
ISO 20400 Alignment & Sustainability Objectives: The evaluation, based on the ISO 20400 framework (Fundamentals, Policy & Strategy, Enablers, and Process), provided insights into how well C&C integrates ESG.
Working with Action Sustainability strengthened our confidence that we are on the right path to embedding ESG across our operations and supply chain. The work gave us a focused set of realistic recommendations, aligned with ISO 20400, and went above and beyond to provide guidance across the key categories that matter to our business. We feel confident in our next steps and look forward to continuing our sustainable procurement journey.
The evaluation provided in-depth insights in how C&C embeds sustainable procurement, how the different parts of the business manage the supply chain and the nuances and constraints in embedded ESG requirements. From pillar working groups, supplier maturity scorecards, Modern Slavery workshops and roll out of Sedex, the evaluation highlighted a wide range of ESG good practice across C&C. It has also enabled teams to take greater ownership of sustainability within their areas of influence.
C&C’s approach to sustainable procurement was assessed as ‘mature’. The evaluation results gave C&C tangible outcomes with clear plans in place to improve. This included an action plan of activities for implementing, the timescales, investment and complexity in carrying them out to fully reach their ESG goals.
The recommendations will support further upskilling of teams and staff competence in the realm of sustainability, alignment of the procurement process with organisational goals, embedding of KPIs, tender questions and contract clauses for ESG requirements, stronger supply chain relationships through improved supplier and contract management.
