The Task

Action Sustainability has supported Cobham since 2011 with developing their approach to a sustainable supply chain. This has ranged from high-level strategy through to implementable tools for day-to-day interactions with suppliers.

The Action

  • Through stakeholder dialogue we developed Cobham’s overarching policy and strategy for responsible supply chain management (click here for PDF), covering all key aspects of sustainability.
  • We worked with Cobham and their consultants, McKinsey, to integrate their Responsible Supply Chain Management policy into their new Standard Operating Framework covering their whole business. We joined with McKinsey to deliver change management Boot Camps in UK, USA, Denmark and France (in French).
  • To supplement the Boot Camps we developed an audit protocol for their implementation team, four e-learning modules covering all aspects of Responsible Supply Chain Management, and an online prioritisation and performance management tool for their businesses.
  • We developed Buyers’ Guides on three key sustainability issues pertinent to Cobham: conflict minerals, REACH, and Modern Slavery.  These were created to provide buyers and procurers with the necessary ‘hands-on’ advice on how to manage risks from these issues through the tendering process and to understand what a ‘good’ response from a supplier looks like.

The Benefit

The aerospace industry is under increasing pressure from its customers and from legislation such as the Dodd Frank Act and the UK Modern Slavery Act to deliver more transparent and accountable supply chains. This work will enable them to face these challenges with greater confidence and efficiency in the future.
