The recently published Global Slavery Index 2023 estimated 50 million people were in modern slavery on any given day in 2021. Simply put, this means that almost one in every 150 people in the world are living in forced labour or forced marriage.
That is almost 10 million more men, women, and children living in modern slavery since the 2018 Global Slavery Index. Current global issues, including climate change, COVID-19 and conflict are increasing those vulnerable to modern slavery. Now, more than ever, it is important for organisations to identify their risks and take action.
